Astrology, Computers, and Statistics – A Connection Since the 1960s
Heimo H. Adelsberger’s involvement with astrology began long before AstroScienceHub. As early as 1968, he used computers for astrological calculations, programming the required algorithms himself.
A few years later, he began examining astrological questions using statistical methods. This combination of calculation, systematic analysis, and interpretation has shaped his work for more than five decades.
Computers and Astrology Since 1968
When Heimo H. Adelsberger began using computers for astrological calculations in 1968, personal computers did not yet exist, and there was no off-the-shelf astrological software to rely on.
He had to program every calculation himself. This included determining astronomical positions, houses, and aspects – the key parameters used to construct a birth chart.
At first, the computer had a single, clear purpose: to make extensive astrological calculations systematic and repeatable. The actual astrological interpretation remained entirely separate.
This pioneering work also sparked a new question: Can astrological assumptions be investigated using statistical methods?
Statistical Investigations of Astrology
At the beginning of his academic career, this question led to a university thesis. As part of his studies in social and economic sciences, he wrote his master’s thesis at the Institute of Statistics on this very topic:

The 41-page thesis documents this early connection between astrological inquiry and quantitative-statistical analysis.
As a result, by the early 1970s, two distinct approaches existed side by side – both of which remained central to his subsequent work in astrology: the precise calculation of astrological configurations and the systematic investigation of the assumptions built upon them.
Academic Background
Over the next several decades, Heimo H. Adelsberger’s academic career led him to universities in Austria, the United States, Denmark, and Germany.
His academic appointments include the Vienna University of Economics and Business, where he earned his habilitation in Computer Science; Texas A&M University in the US; the Technical University of Denmark; and the University of Essen (later the University of Duisburg-Essen).
His research focused on computer science, information systems, statistics, and business administration and operations management. His work specialized in complex information and planning systems, system modeling, and data-integrated processes.

He works directly with original Latin astrological texts and is able to access Ancient Greek sources. An extensive collection of historical astrological literature allows him to trace terminology, interpretative criteria, and methodological developments directly from primary sources.
This makes it possible to compare modern astrological concepts with their historical evolution. Rather than adopting terms uncritically from contemporary summaries, he can examine them in their original context.
